Thank you! I very much appreciate your thinking and writing but I also was not going to subscribe to Pelican. So thanks for accommodating people like me.
I appreciate your doing this! Like Mark, I enjoy your writing, and I’ve missed not being able to read full posts, but I’m not going to subscribe to Pelican due to the hefty cost. Thank you for making your writing more accessible for us Subtackers again!
The Pelican Premium is $16/mo. for everything, which is a really good deal considering the variety and amount available there - writing, podcasts, documentaries, family programs, prayers in Latin & English, Martyrology, sermons, recordings of chant, ebooks, audiobooks, and more. That's only twice the cost of my Substack, which is $8/mo.
Still, as an American, I believe in freedom of choice (when the choices are legitimate)!
I echo the sentiments of Mark and Chantal -- thank you for giving those of us who have to remain on Substack more accessibility to your writing. I have greatly missed being able to see everything here!
Your Thursday articles will remain open to everyone, is that correct?
Since December 1, all articles here at the Substack have been only snippets, with the full versions over at Pelican+. At Pelican+, Thursday and Saturday posts are free and open to the public. At this Substack, however, all posts will be paywalled. The appearance will be no different than it was since December 1, except for paying subscribers, who will now get access in full here, if they so prefer.
The reason is that we writers need to be able to make a living doing our writing, and so our readers should support us in one place or the other, Pelican+ or Substack. Of the two, my preference is that people should be members of Pelican+, and hence it retains a certain advantage.
