I hope you are going to permit printing articles. Currently, you can only print a single page. I "print" article to pdf and/or paper to save them. This is core functionality--please enable it. Thanks!
You might consider copying and pasting the content of the article into a Word processor (such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word), and printing it from there. A bit inconvenient, but it only takes a minute!
I have just tried this with three different word processors. In all cases, some time spent reformatting was necessary. The text pastes with a colored background, pictures come in huge--is would be so much simpler to have a print or save as pdf function as most other platforms do.
I know exactly what you mean. I have been able to get around the formatting problem by pressing Ctrl+Shift+V (or if using a Mac, Command+Option+Shift+V). That should paste the content as plain text, without the issues you mentioned above!
I have a Basic Pelican subscription, and almost everything I have clicked on requires a Premium subscription. Is there a way I can see in advance what is available to me without upgrading? I find this frustrating, and have pretty much stopped looking at the app.
The written articles in the Forum - including my Tradition & Sanity articles - should be available without difficulty to a Basic subscriber. Also, quite a few of the podcasts.
The prayer app, ebooks, and audio books are all Premium features. The reason is, these are costlier for us to produce or to lease, and if we make too much free, we are making it impossible to pay the contributors and the support staff. There are now about 15 people working for Pelican!
Thank you for your reply. Would it be possible to add a label to the premium content, so that it's obvious? What's frustrating is not knowing until I try to click through - I apologize for not making that clear.
Pelican+ is getting better and better. I just hope the Substack articles become visually the same. Right now they are just web pages as opposed to how Substack looks on mobile.
I would love to see the chant propers downloadable along with a video of the chant to the scrolling score. In addition SATB versions of classic songs like O Bone Jesu (one video for each voice) would be great. I realize this would be a long-term project; just planting the idea if it hasn’t come up before. That would be so helpful for a schola.
This would go beyond what we can do, at least at this time. But there are other sites that help with that, like Corpus Christi Watershed, the Church Music Association of America, and some sacred music sites on YouTube. E.g., Nicholas Lemme's channel has all the propers chanted in solfege, which is enormously useful.
Thank you! I knew about Watershed for chant, but I will check out Nicolas Lemme and the Church Musical Association. I just downloaded the app to check out Pelican+.
I'm on Pelican+ and I am enjoying it a lot, especially the Martyrs & Miracle Men podcast. I often find myself online trying to find Catholic content that is spiritually edifying -- lives of the saints, meaningful discussions of the interior life & the life of prayer, the spiritual meaning of Scripture, the wisdom of the Church Fathers. I hope content like this will abound on Pelican+!!
I was also wondering if there is or will be added a schedule for podcasts so we know when to tune in for the next episode? I listened to the first four Martyrs & Miracle Men all in one sitting and anxiously await the next one!
I am very impressed with the ease and functionality of the app, by the way. Not sure how you guys did it! It is wonderful.
They should be coming out around the 1st of each month. Since there are so many moving pieces, it's not an exact science. We're not (yet) like EWTN with a full worked out schedule!
The longer I have been a paying subscriber to this substack the less time I was able to dedicate time to read the content. I have not been thrilled seeing other authors chiming in, but in summary it looks like it has been some preparation/test to see what readers might react to and maybe reactions were positive, so Pelican is just a natural consequence.
I have written emails suggesting to offer the app, as Pelican does not want to support big tech, via autonomous channels like F-Droid in order to support de-googled phones (but with no reply - I guess y'all are just very busy). In a time where "smart"phones are increasingly invasive though a website format is welcome.
In the meantime my list of books, including yours dear Peter, is longer and longer and I want to give more time to paper and less to screen (also as my job is computer related).
Being my mother tongue not English I am really not interested, with all due respect, listening to Latin chants or prayers with anglosaxon pronunciation, although I would be interested in listening to discussions or readings or lectures - Peter, you have really a pleasant voice to my ear.
So, don't be sad or angry, but I won't follow you to Pelican. But of course I wish you and the other contributors success and God's blessing.
I hope you can build a “smart TV” app so people can watch the videos on their televisions instead of whatever else they may be tempted with.
Guess what - the smart TV feature is being designed as we speak. It will be available from, e.g., Roku and any other typical places.
What a beautiful reminder on Saint Charles Borromeo Day!

I'm going to ask Pelican if we can add this.

That's a neat trick--thanks. An improvement, but doesn't eliminate the need for reformatting--especially if there are headings etc.
You’re welcome. Definitely a stopgap measure and not perfect. Hopefully P+ will integrate a printing feature!
I hope so. Would be a shame to have "upgraded" to less functionality.... :-)

I'm sorry you've found this frustrating.

Yes, we are working overtime to improve the interface in all respects, including what you mentioned.
Thank you.

So exciting! Truth BE told - without secularization. !!!!!
Wishing you the best! As a free subscriber to Substack I understand people need to earn a living. Go with God Pelican you’re in my prayers. 🙏🏼
Really enjoying the new content on Pelican, the saint stories are phenomenal
