What a wealth of articles and commentary after your very grueling trip ~ thank you. I loved your assessment: “ Hyperpapalism is a mental disease.” So very true. I’m glad you pointed out the Fairfield Carmelites. I love what they are doing and I follow their progress. I think the great Madre herself would feel quite comfortable in their convent.

Great piece and commentary. Regarding the section "Vatican II Was the Turning-point," what has fascinated me is that no one ever seems to ask "What if Vatican II never happened?" Does anyone -- even V2's most ardent defenders -- really think things would be worse? It tickles my funny bone to think about it but does anyone ever say "Well, if Pope John had never called the council, even more priests and religious would have left!" Would certainly be curious to hear any arguments but to my knowledge, no one has ever tried to defend V2 this way because even many of her biggest defenders know it would sound ridiculous.
