NOTE: As of December 1, Tradition & Sanity will move permanently to Pelican+. After that point, this Substack will publish only article teasers, with the substance over there. Between now and December 1, posts will be published at both places. In this transitional phase, I encourage you to check out Pelican+, a multi-author, multi-media traditional Catholic platform of which I am excited to be a co-founder. -PAK
Lots of interest in this article, thanks Dr K. Especially enjoyed the Benedictine video, the article on veiling at Crisis, and Gavin Ashenden's balanced appraisal of our new Holy Father. On the last point, I'm increasingly dismayed by the number of articles I come across who cannot find one iota of goodness in Pope Leo. Yes, we all want immediate correction to the faults of the modern Church, but do we really need only to see those things that are off or doubtful in Leo. I mean what were we hoping for? Was it Pius V or XII? I couldn't imagine how difficult a job this would be for Pope Leo to navigate, especially with a Roman Curia of a couple of thousand people, many of whom are indoctrinated in modernism, and more than happy to create an obstacle course for any reform to happen. Prudence is required here. Yes the scandal of the homosexual march into the Vatican weighs heavily, and should be rightly condemned and exorcised, but that did not mean that we should be willfuly blind to the good that is done. Perhaps this is the Bergolio effect. That tenure was so bad, that I (wrongly) came to see absolutely everything he did as evil. And that is preposterous. I'm sure he did some good, but his faults were so bad that I pulled down the shutters.
Finally, glad to read more from Sebastian Morello. I just finished his Mysticism, Magic, and Monasteries, and have moved onto The World as God's Icon: Creator and Creation in the Platonic Thought of Thomas Aquinas. Both excellent.
I came into the Church during Francis (eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord), and read my way into the Catholic Church. Woo boy I had no idea that there was so much fighting and drama! I was a bit idealistic and naive I must admit, but SO, so excited to have been led into the fullness of the faith. I have felt battered by Catholic arguing on both “sides.” I didn’t even realize it at the time but I would be considered a “Traditional Catholic” (I thought I was just Catholic, haha!). There’s 10,000 things to be concerned about it seems, but I’ve found it enormously helpful to just pray this prayer every day. I present it to you…
Prayer for Pope Leo XIV by Bishop Strickland:
O Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest,
Thou hast permitted Pope Leo XIV to ascend the Chair of Peter at a time of great confusion and suffering for Thy flock.
We place him into Thy Sacred Heart, praying that he may be conformed ever more deeply to Thee, governed not by the spirit of the age, but by the Spirit of Truth.
Grant him the grace to teach with clarity, to govern with justice and humility, and to sanctify Thy people in truth.
Let him be a rock for the faithful, a light for those in darkness, and a defender of the holy Catholic Faith handed down from the Apostles.
If he falters, give us the grace to remain firm.
If he suffers, grant us the courage to suffer with him.
And if he walks in fidelity, may we support him with prayer, sacrifice, and love.
Preserve us, O Lord, from both despair and delusion.
Keep us alert, rooted in Scripture and Tradition, yet full of trust in Thy providence.
Teach us to hope not in men, but in Thee – for Thou, O Christ, reigneth even in Thy Passion,
And Thou wilt never forsake Thy Church.
May Mary, Thy Mother and ours, intercede for Pope Leo XIV, that he may be a true shepherd after Thy Heart.
May all Thy saints defend him from error and guide him in holiness.
Like it or not there is a rapidly growing consensus among traditional Catholics that Leo is indeed very much ideologically, though not tempermentally, Francis 2.0. The evidence is irrefutable: promoting those who ought to be anathmatized, turning a blind eye to scandal (Cupich, James Martin, St Peters Basilica "pride Mass"), failing to reverse Bp Strickland's unjust termination, tacitly promoting the destruction of Western Civilization through unfettered immigration, downplaying the crimes of abortion and sodomy, failing to fire reprobate prelates, allowing TLM parishes to be arbitrarily crushed, and effectively canonizing his benefactor Bergoglio (no need to pray for his soul if he's in heaven!). I could go on, but what's the point? Let's stop pretending Leo is anything but a very modest improvement over Francis.
Is it just me or did the word "migrant" somehow replace "refugee?" Migrant just means someone who moves to live in a different place. Many people coming into Western countries are already wealthy but simply prefer to live here. Probably this is deliberate Newspeak type language corruption, because if they used the correct term "refugee" only a small fraction of migrants would qualify.

I'm half way through your interview with Conor. I also USED to attend the TLM in Charlotte.
I have joined Pelican+, but I did so before and T&S credit.
Last night Avoiding Babylon (on Locals) took a particularly strong position on TLM cancellations and lack of Church guidance on teaching the Faith.
Great work. John Kenny, PhD, another Dr.K. At 84 years old, much of the degree has drained out!
