Dear Readers of Tradition & Sanity:
On October 7 each year, we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary (aka Our Lady of Victory), which commemorates the great victory at Lepanto in 1571. This year, 2025, the feast also marks the beginning of something BIG in the world of Catholic media — something I believe is necessary and long overdue.
For years, many of us have been writing, teaching, and speaking about the crisis in the Church and the need to preserve our liturgical and theological patrimony. We’ve done this work across scattered platforms: blogs, YouTube, Substack, Patreon, SoundCloud…
It has been good work. But it has also been precarious work, always subject to the whims of secular corporations, hidden algorithms, the ever-present threat of demonetization or deplatforming. And it has been mingled with a continual stream of advertisements and foreign material that are usually irrelevant and often repugnant.
Today, that changes.
I have joined forces with my friends Timothy Flanders, Kennedy Hall, Nick Cavazos, and Dr. Ed Schaefer to launch Pelican+ — a platform where traditional Catholic content can exist without compromise, where serious formation can take place without interruption, where the pursuit of truth isn’t subject to the approval of Silicon Valley.
I am honored and thrilled to be one of the founding collaborators of Pelican+. In 3 minutes and 45 seconds, I explain why I’ve taken this step, and what you can expect to find there:
What I’m contributing:
My extensive body of work on liturgy, tradition, and the Faith
Formation resources for those seeking to understand our current crisis
Content that engages the deep questions facing Catholics today
A place where complexity and nuance are welcomed, not marginalized
This isn’t entertainment. It’s formation. It’s the work of handing on what we’ve received.
How will this work?
Pelican+ offers a tremendous amount of free content and always will.
In addition, it will have paywalled content available only to subscribers, to sustain the production of the highest-quality Catholic content.
But this is the key point:
On the Tradition & Sanity Substack, for $8/month, you can obtain access only to my articles.
At Pelican+, for $7.99/month, you obtain access not only to my T&S articles but also to the work of half-a-dozen other collaborators who, together, offer you and your family a far richer array of content.
Then, there are two further levels, the Plus and the Family Premium. You can read more about them here, but to give you an example, the Plus level includes the Prayer apps (read by real people, never AI-generated voices), which will give you such features as:
Rosaries recited in English and Latin by various Pelican+ contributors (I’ve just recorded the Rosary in Latin and will soon be doing a chanted version)
The Divine Office in English and Latin (a work in progress, to which hours will be added by and by; currently Prime and Compline are available in English, and Prime in Latin)
Mass Ordo and Propers (1962 and pre-1955), handsomely formatted and easy to use
This Plus level also includes a library of superb ebooks and audiobooks (including all four Gospels read by Kennedy Hall using the Douay-Rheims), streaming options for chant, and Pelican Plus University, which will be offering comprehensive online courses in areas such as doctrine, apologetics, Latin, philosophy, and Church history.
The future of T&S
So… the big question on all your minds is undoubtedly: What does all this mean for the Substack where you are reading this post?
1. I will be transitioning all of the content of this Substack over to Pelican+. Within about a month’s time, literally every article ever posted here, with all the images, will be found over there, as its “home.” (You can already visit Tradition and Sanity at Pelican+ to see how it looks.) By November, full Substack functionality will be replicated at Pelican+. There will be a blend of free and paywalled articles, as is presently the case.
2. I will keep this Substack online into the future, because I want people who search for articles or enter URLs to be able to find them (dead links are a pretty annoying phenomenon). Eventually, the articles at this Substack will be revamped as opening paragraphs followed by a link to their permanent home on Pelican+.
3. IMPORTANT: All my current paid subscribers will soon be emailed a link by which they can seamlessly transfer their subscription to Pelican+. I want to make it clear that everything you have paid for will be honored, and our team will ensure that nothing of content or payment will be lost. Everything I produce will still be available here in full until the transition is completed.
4. If you have never paid to gain access to the paywalled posts and archives at Tradition & Sanity, now is your chance to do so on Pelican+ — with a discount (click here). In addition to gaining access to what you have enjoyed and appreciated at Tradition & Sanity, you’ll also have access to the work of Kennedy Hall, Timothy Flanders, Nicholas Cavazos, and more.
To summarize: If you are a paid subscriber of this Substack (whether monthly, annual, or founder level), in the coming days you will receive an email that will help you easily migrate over. We’ll make sure you are never charged again for something you’ve already paid for.
If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to me or to team@piouspelican.com.
A special offer for those who subscribe in the first week
If you enroll between October 7–14, you’ll receive two complete study packages:
My “Foundations of Faith in Crisis” Digital Study Kit — Three complete workshops I delivered as conferences, now formatted for personal and group study:
“The Mass and the End of Culture”
“A Higher Obedience”
“A Conscience at Peace”
Each includes complete workbooks, presentation slides, reflection questions, and curated reading lists.
Plus Kennedy Hall’s “Terror of Demons” Complete Series — his superb talks on Catholic masculinity and fatherhood, including the full videos.
Combined value: $197 — complimentary for early subscribers.
I don’t use sales language comfortably, so let me simply say this: if you’ve found my work helpful up till now, know that Pelican+ is where it will have its home. And if you believe that serious Catholic formation deserves a stable home, this is a magnificent opportunity to help build one for it.
There is also a Founders Club (limited to 250, available until December 31st) for those who wish to secure lifetime rates and permanent recognition. Details at pelicanplusfounders.club.
Tools fit for purpose
In the Catholic Church, which is the microcosm of creation and the epicenter of the world, a battle is raging — a battle for truth, a struggle for souls, a wrestling with principalities and powers. No longer is it the Turkish navy that threatens, but the armada of Antichrist. We Catholics need the purifying, fortifying, elevating grace of God as never before; we need each other’s aid and support as never before; and we need weapons and tools fit for purpose.
We know what the tried and true weapons are: prayer, fasting, sacraments, liturgy, the Rosary. As for tools, they come in profuse variety, and modern technology can produce very powerful ones. Pelican+ is a formidable tool — indeed, one could say a whole fleet of resources — that every Catholic counterrevolutionary should take up and put to use.
The Holy League at Lepanto understood that some battles must be fought together. I believe we face such a moment now.
In Christo Rege,
Dr. Peter Kwasniewski
P.S. — The complimentary study packages are available only through October 14th. After that date, they will be sold for $197.

Thank you for reading and may God bless you!
Will your posts in Pelican have an audio option like your Substack?
