I was taught by a lovely priest that angels were NOT the little cherubs depicted in renaissance paintings but were huge, fierce and powerful. When people encounter them in the Bible the people are almost always “afraid” and even at times faint from being overwhelmed by them. Clearly they deserve our deepest reverence and respect. I loved the consecration! Thank you!

Absolutely! There is nothing worse than the Renaissance reinvention of the ancient pagan "putti." Ridiculous. I think it has greatly diminished people's faith and reverence for angels. We must get this back.

C. S. Lewis says pretty much the same thing in his Introduction to "The Screwtape Letters".

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men of good will," said the angels at the Nativity.

Re the postcript image of the "giant" angel carefully holding the child. I once listened to a talk by an exorcist who for purposes of brevity requested his guardian angel to assist a woman in whom the demon(s) has just manifested and was crushing her and his assistant's who were helping her until he arrived. She later remarked to him that she "saw his angel and he was HUGE"

I've loved my Guardian Angel since childhood although I've never consecrated myself to 'him'. Today is the day.

My earliest childhood memory is of a completely individual and distinct Presence that came to me in a ray of sunlight. I never told anyone about it because I was raised in a household of atheists who would have thought I was crazy. But this Presence continued to intervene in my life over the years and eventually led me to convert to Catholicism. I believe this was indeed my Guardian Angel, and recently I have begun to wish I knew how to thank him better. So this prayer arrived at the perfect time!

What helps is recovering the older map of reality. Angels aren’t cute mascots for children. They’re real intelligences, set within a hierarchy that ties heaven and earth together.

Think of Jacob’s ladder: the world with its rungs restored. To consecrate yourself to your guardian isn’t flattery but alignment. It’s choosing to place your memory, intellect, and will under the care of the one sent to light for and guard you.

And the fruit is surprisingly practical. Scruples quiet down when you borrow your angel’s clarity. Temptations are spotted sooner when you lean on a watchman who never sleeps. Prayer steadies when you pray with a companion who is never distracted.

Once after novena to St Therese I got a grace to "ask for what God wants, not what you want". At the time I thought it was St Therese, but now think it might have been through my good angel. Thank you for this. Love my angel.

Than you for sharing your beautiful consecration prayer - and all the other wonderful information!

(Ephesians 6:12): For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

So comforting to remember that I (we) have a very competent warrior by my side!😇🙏

"Archbishop Fulton Sheen once remarked that there are millions who hate what they think Catholicism is, but very few who hate what it actually is, for they are sorely ignorant of it."

An excellent quote accompanied by a very good post. Thank you.

I found this Consecration to the Guardian Angel (don’t know its source):

“Holy Guardian Angel, you were given to me at the beginning of my life as a protector and companion. Poor sinner that I am, I, (name) want to consecrate myself to you today in the presence of my Lord and God, Mary, my Celestial Mother, and all the angels and saints.

I want to unite myself to you today and never more be separated from you.

United intimately with you, I promise to be faithful and obedient to my Lord and God and the holy Church.

I promise to always proclaim Mary as my Queen and Mother and to make her life be a model for mine.

I promise to proclaim my faith in you, my holy protector, and zealously promote the devotion to the holy angels as being, in a special way, protection and help during this time of spiritual struggle for the Kingdom of God.

I ask you, holy Angel of the Lord, all the strength of divine love so that I may be inflamed by it; I ask that my union with you may be for me a protecting shield against the enemy’s assaults.

Finally, I ask you, my holy Guardian Angel, for the most holy Virgin’s grace of humility to preserve me from all dangers so that guided by you I may reach the Heavenly Homeland.

Amen.

If anyone knows where this Consecration’s source is from please reply! It was in an unidentified Word press post from my Google search.
