The first- and second-part essays by Tieken hold great promise. Only, not being schooled in Thomas or Thomism myself, I’m worried by his remarks about Neo-Thomism and hope he doesn’t toss out Thomas (I’m guessing his criticism—sometimes heard?—would be a tendency towards rationalism or emphasis on the material, and so having contributed to the rise of modernity.)

Merry Christmas, Happy Anniversary!

Ross has no problem with St. Thomas or any traditional Thomist. I think he's reacting to a certain strand of post-Cartesian scholasticism that adopts some of the mental habits and assumptions of modernity.

The irony is that Lumen Gentium taught participation by all Christ’s faithful in his role as priest, prophet and king. This should be a lived reality most especially at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Is MPF demonstrating the failure of a Vatican II charter document (LG) to shape the thinking and living of those who work in the DDF? If the Cardinal in charge of the DDF does not understand the common “priesthood of the faithful”, how can he ever appreciate the dignity of his own office as ordained priest?
